During Mass

Stay focused and attentive. Your service helps the priest and the whole congregation worship reverently.

1
Entrance Procession

Walk reverently in the procession, carrying the cross or candles as assigned. Keep a steady, slow pace and maintain proper posture.

2
Liturgy of the Word

Sit attentively during the readings. Be ready to assist if the priest needs anything. Listen carefully to God's Word.

3
The Offertory
Key Duty

This is one of your most important duties! When the Offertory begins, bring the following items to the altar:

  • The chalice and paten (if not already on the altar)
  • The cruets of water and wine
  • The lavabo bowl and towel for the priest's hand washing
  • The gifts of bread and wine brought up by the congregation
4
Eucharistic Prayer

Kneel at the appropriate time. Ring the bells at the epiclesis (when the priest extends hands over the gifts) and at each elevation of the Host and Chalice.

5
Communion

Receive Communion first if directed, then return to your place. Be ready to assist the priest with anything needed during distribution.

6
Closing

After the final blessing, lead the recessional procession out. Walk with the same reverence as the entrance.
