After Mass
Your service doesn't end with the final blessing. Cleaning up is just as important as setting up.
Using the candle snuffer, carefully put out all the altar candles. Start with the candle farthest from the tabernacle and work inward.
Remove the chalice, paten, and any other items from the altar and bring them to the sacristy for cleaning.
Bring the water and wine cruets back. Empty any remaining contents as directed and rinse them out.
Carefully remove your alb or cassock and surplice. Hang them neatly so they are ready for the next server.
Check the sanctuary area for any items out of place. Straighten chairs, pick up any fallen papers, and make sure everything is orderly.
Take a moment to thank the priest and any other ministers. It's a sign of respect and gratitude for serving together.
